A GOOD LIFE FOR ALL.
Veterinarians for Animal Welfare Aotearoa is a collective of animal welfare advocates, led by veterinarians. Our purpose is to create better lives for animals using knowledge and expertise in veterinary and animal welfare science.
WHAT WE DO
We advocate for animals and their welfare; we are the only collective voice in New Zealand that is veterinary-led, science-backed, and independent.
Many factors such as Government, policy, industry bodies, commercial partners/interests, and personal relationships impact animal welfare advocacy. This can lead to animal welfare advocacy being weaker than it ought to be, and can mean slow progress for animals' interests and their welfare.
Veterinarians for Animal Welfare Aotearoa does not capitulate to this dynamic. Using veterinary and animal welfare science, we provide a strong, independent perspective on animal welfare, with strategic solutions to the opportunities and challenges.
Veterinarians for Animal Welfare Aotearoa creates influence through advocacy, submissions, consultancy, education, and collaboration. We provide a unique voice for animals, underpinned by science. VAWA advocacy focuses on all 5 domains of animal welfare, and strives to create “A Good Life."
We educate through our public voice, media, attending and speaking at events and through representation on committees.
We advocate and provide feedback and advice to Government and other organisations.
Through our submissions, we seek to influence Government and other organisations’ policy, and make progress for animals.
We provide independent animal welfare advice to veterinarians, and to organisations and individuals that wish to improve the lives of animals.
We have strategic alliances with other organisations, and outsource for specific expertise to maximise our impact.
